Rochester Castle

Today I visited Rochester Castle, which was very big and I walked to the very top the castle. I think princesses used to live there. When Thomas Becket was Arch Bishop he owned Rochester Castle himself. The Castle has been present since 43AD but the Keep was built by the Normans in 1127.

The castle is next door to Rochester Cathedral.

Inside the castle it was very very big. It must have been very cold for the people that lived there.

This is what the castle used to look like but over the years it has become quite damaged. It had a big fire place with a door to the Kings private quarters. The room I am standing in the above photo is the chapel where Thomas Becket must have prayed they said.

On top of the castle I could see a beautiful view.

This was the beautiful view from the top of the castle.

I also stood outside Rochester Cathedral but this will be an adventure for another day.

This is me standing outside the Cathedral, its not as big as Canterbury even though it looks like it in this photo of me.

Zahras Visit To Canterbury Cathedral

I enjoyed Canterbury Cathedral very very much. I went here with my Nanny and my Great Aunty Laura. I learnt about Thomas Becket. He was born in 1118 and he died in 1170 at Canterbury Cathedral. He was made the Arch Bishop of Canterbury by King Henry II. Unfortunately they had a terrible disagreement and the King found himself in a position where he had to order the death of Thomas Becket.

I saw where Thomas Becket died, on the wall were 3 swords but there were more than that because of the shadows.

This is me and my Great Aunty Laura outside the Cathedral, having my photo taken by my Nanny. I asked some people about Thomas Becket and the Black Prince. They told me stories about them.

I brought a book before I went in the Cathedral so that I could read about what I was looking at.
